The A-Z of emerging pathogens and their impact on dental infection control

This presentation focusses on the challenges posed by emerging pathogens for infection control in dentistry.

Infection control and prevention work on two levels because it is:

• Directly relevant to everyday life in dental practice;
• A major component of the bigger geopolitical issues that affect all of us; globalisation, global warming and regime change!

Infection control and prevention is part of the armoury for international resilience strategies against infection.

The following will be covered:

• Current issues that that have led to the development of novel emerging pathogens
• How infection is spread in the dental surgery
• The practices and procedures for implementing effective infection control in response to the threat from emerging pathogens

On completion you will be familiar with the threats posed by emerging pathogens and what steps can be taken to protect against them.
