Safeguarding children and young adults

This presentation updates and complements our previous courses, with an emphasis on dental neglect and how this can be an indicator of wider concerns. Interactive case studies illustrate how concerns regarding children at risk should be managed. It is relevant to competency levels 1, 2 and 3.

Topics covered include:

• what constitutes 'safeguarding children and young adults';
• the voice of the child;
• the consequences of missed opportunities;
• responsibilities of dental team members;
• types of abuse;
• dental neglect and how it can be an indicator of wider neglect or abuse; and
• how to recognise indicators and act on concerns.

• your responsibilities and those of each individual member of the dental team;
• your training requirements; and
  how to act on concerns about children and young adults at risk.
